“Praise means looking up, but worship means bowing down.”
Have you ever pondered the difference between praise and worship?
Me too. For many years, I actually thought they were the same until a few years ago I heard someone say, “True worship is a lifestyle.”
I thought, Hmmm, that sounds anointed (lol), and I’ve been striving to apply that to my life ever since.
But a quick Word search would have led me right to the Truth of praise vs worship (which is why we must not neglect to utilize the tools HaYah has given us to familiarize ourselves with His Word).
In summary, praise means to uplift and acknowledge, but worship means to serve. According to the original Hebrew text from which the King James Version was translated, praise and worship are defined as such:
So, which one is more important?
Well, we are called to both praise and worship HAYAH. But I think the key difference is that if you truly worship Him, praise comes naturally.
But when you praise yet your life doesn’t reflect His Word, you’re simply giving lip service. While glorifying Abba with beautiful words, music and dance is blessed and necessary, how much does it mean if we go right back into a life of pleasing the flesh immediately afterwards?
Let’s look at some key differences:
While praise says, “I adore You,”
worship says, “You are my master.”
Praise shows that we acknowledge His Goodness. Worship shows we are in submission to it.
I pray in The Rauch that I’ve made this clear. I used the Blue Letter Bible to help me define original Hebrew words from the KJV, as well as the verses in Hebrew listed above. It’s a great resource which I recommend to all you beauties who desire to get deeper into the Word by breaking down the original intent and context of His Holy Book.
But be doers of the word, and not merely hearers who deceive themselves. For if any are hearers of the word and not doers, they are like those who look at themselves in a mirror; for they look at themselves and, on going away, immediately forget what they were like. But those who look into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and persevere, being not hearers who forget but doers who act—they will be blessed in their doing.
James 1:22-25
